Steamboat Trace OPEN!

On Monday, October 17, Nemaha NRD crews were finally able to open a portion of the Steamboat Trace trail after more than four months of closure. The opening is limited, however, to that section from Peru north to Minersville, which is south of Nebraska City. Access at the north end is limited since the original trailhead near the OPPD coal power plant is currently inaccessible. Therefore, visitors are encouraged to use the Peru trailhead for both their starting and ending points. Parking is limited at the Minersville end of the trail, and traveling the gravel roads to Minersville during this busy harvest season is not recommended. The portion that is now open is about nine miles one way.

No estimates have been made as to when the south part of the trail from Peru to Brownville might be reopened. Missouri River floodwaters and sediment damaged several sections of the trail, and some bridges are also in need of repair. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Ride Update 9/17/2011

Just an update.  This Sunday’s mountain bike ride is canceled due to the rain.  Hopefully this next week will be dry and we can get back out there next Sunday.

Next Sunday’s mountain bike ride will be at 7:30 am at Swanson Park in Bellevue.  Show up early or late its no problem.  We usually ride for most of the morning, so come at your convenience and join us for a few laps.  The Sunday ride will be canceled on Oct. 2nd for the Wish Ride.   It will resume the 9th at Platte River State Park.

Not sure what to expect? Here is a short video of the trail at Swanson. The trail is a 4 mile loop of pretty varied terrain that’s great for all abilities.  Need a bike or car-pooling? No problem, call the shop and we will get you set up.

Road rides are Tuesday’s a 6 PM from the shop.   Fall is the best time to ride.  Come enjoy the great temperatures, no wind, and beautiful scenery as the sun goes down.  Since it gets dark quick we will be moving the ride up to 5:30 October 4th.

Join us for the Wish Ride in Dunbar, NE on October 2nd.  More info can be found here.
